Which size earthing electrode do I need?

For homes and small shops a 17mm or 25mm copper bonded electrode is usually sufficient. Commercial buildings typically use 25mm to 32mm. Factories, solar plants and substations generally require 32mm or 48mm. Final selection depends on measured soil resistivity and fault current at the site.

What is the difference between copper bonded and copper plated electrodes?

In a copper bonded electrode the copper is molecularly bonded to the steel core at a thickness of around 250 microns, so it resists soil corrosion for decades. Copper plated electrodes carry a much thinner electroplated layer that can peel away in the ground within a few years, causing earth resistance to rise.

Is backfill compound necessary with an earthing electrode?
